CLINICAL OBJECTIVES
- The Tekon®Total Disc Replacement (TDR) system has a proprietary design.
- It eliminates the need of a plastic insert that can ultimately create wear debris and implant loosening.
- It also has a greater selection of endplates available designed to shift the lordotic angle to the inferior endplate. This increases the range of motion and the stability of the implant and spinal column.
SURGICAL PROCEDURE
- Lumbar disc replacement involves replacing a worn or degenerated disc of the spine with an artificial disk made of metal or a combination of metal and plastic.
- Lumbar disc replacement is generally seen as a motion preservation alternative to spinal fusion surgery. Fusion permanently joins 2 vertebrae together often causing adjacent level degeneration.
